Fizzy Drink and Mentos Experiment

Title - Fizzy Drink and Mentos Experiment
Purpose: What do you want to learn/find out?
Which drink has the biggest reaction with mentos?

Hypothesis: Try to predict the answer to the problem. Another term for hypothesis is ‘educated guess’. This is usually stated like ” If I…(do something) then…(this will occur)
My group thought that L & P or Diet coke would have the best reactions of them all.

Materials: List everything you will need to conduct your experiment.
5 mentos for each drink. L & P, Diet coke, coke, pepsi, fanta, 7 up,

Experiment procedure: The fun part! Design a test or procedure to confirm or disprove your hypothesis. Write down each step so that someone else could do the same experiment.
1.Get a variety of fizzy drinks and a few packets of original mentos
2.Then you tape 5 pieces of mentos to each drink lid
3.Then pull the tape of. This makes the mentos fall into the drink.

Silicon Valley

Walt:Identify features of explaining writing

Today we had two special guests from Tamaki College to come and talk to us about their learning trip to Silicon Valley, San Francisco U.S.A. The two boys were selected from a number of teenagers to go to Silicon Valley to learn. There names are Siosaia Tukuafu and Gabriel Inia.

The two students were selected from a number of Kiwi students to go on a learning journey. The places they went to were Alcatraz prison, Google, Microsoft, Khan Academy, Xero, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Kiwi landing Pad,Yelp, IDEO, Book Track and Stanford University. The boys also got to visit the Golden Gate Bridge.

Gabe’s favourite places were Khan Academy and Alcatraz prison. Saia’s favourite places were Facebook and Stanford University. While they were talking we were allowed to ask questions. Someone asked what are you going to be doing in the future. Saia’s answer was “In the future I want to be a Civil Engineer and an Architec. Gabe’s answer was “To be honest I’m not sure what I want to do in the future because I’m focusing on school work for now”.

Overall I think that there talk was cool. It taught me a lot of things and motivated me to try my best in college to maybe go to Silicon Valley myself.

My Horror Story

Walt:Manage ourselves and our time to complete a piece of writing

It was a cold misty night in the Middleton family home. The family were watching T.V peacefully as they heard a noise in the kitchen. The dad Darrion went to go and see what that noise was, but there was nobody there. The fruit bowl was on the ground, all the fruit has spilt out of the bowl and the bowl was smashed.

Later that night the mother of baby Lisa put her to bed. Lisa’s parents also went to bed later that night. During the night Lisa’s parents heard her crying. They didn’t think it was bad so they went back to sleep.

Later that night Lucia heard Lisa cry again so she went to go and check on her. She opened Lisa’s door and Lisa was not there. Her mother then screamed and the father woke up. Her father ran into the room and started to look for baby Lisa. “Lisa is gone” her dad said. I think our house is haunted, there might be ghosts, or even someone in the house. Nothing else happened after that.

During the year they got investigators to look in there house to see if anything or anyone was there. The investigators said nothing was there so they carried on with life. A few months after that they had another child. His name was Charlie. Charlie had a happy life until he was 3,  he was taken away from the ghost. Late at night the parents of the children heard 2 little voices singing “Hush little baby don't you cry, your gonna have a sweet little life”.

iluminate Recount

How:A lady who was a visitor came to school and brang her friends to entertain us.
E
Events - what happened? In the order they happened.
First the classes came into the hall. Then Mrs Nua talked to us
E
Ending - How did it end? Final thoughts.

Start your writing here:
A few weeks ago Pt England School were given a wonderful performance from a group of dancers. The group who performed for us were iluminate. iluminate are a group of dancers from all over America (USA). Everyone was excited to hear that we were having a performance from this group. The whole school gathered in the hall for the amazing performance. Mrs Nua talked to us about this group. Mrs Nua then introduced a lady, this lady was the one that had got this group to perform for us.

As soon as they had there talk the lights were out. Everyone in the room were excited about that. The lights were out, then all you could see on the stage was a big person, a glowing person. You couldn't see there face or anything because they were wearing all black so they could glow in the dark. Once the first glowing figure was out, two people came in as well. The music then started to play. Once the group finished performing they came out and talked to the school. The selected Kapa Haka children did a performance for the group at the end. The group then learnt the NZ haka. They performed it too.

Once they had finished doing the Haka the school went back to their classes to get ready to head home. However the the Yr 7 & 8s stayed behind to ask the group some questions. Some of the questions were “Who inspired you to dance”, “ Can you do the dab” and more. When we finished asking questions we went back to class to pack up. Our day was amazing!

Task Description:Our task was to write about the group that came to perform for our school. We had to use the TREE structure to write this recount.

2. For our second step we put the wool on our star. It looked like this.

Fun Week

Walt: Use a variety of interesting vocabulary to keep our readers engaged.

On the last few days of Term 1 the Yr 8Å› went to camp and the Yr 7Å› stayed behind and had 3 fun days. On the first day of our fun week we watched a movie called Boys2men. We watched half of the movie on the first day. After the movie we wrote a brainstorm of the movie.
Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 10.26.18 am.png

On the second day of our 3 fun days we watched the other half of the movie. When we watched the movie we also ate popcorn, we were given popcorn to make the movie more enjoyable. The movie was extra cool because it was made by one of our teachers Miss Muliaumasealii. Parts of it were filmed in Glen Innes and the other parts were filmed at James Cook High School and a big warehouse.  I enjoyed watching the movie because it taught me some things.

On the last day of our 3 fun days we made flower blankets, and pasta bake. The cooking group started to make the food while the other children carried on with there flower blankets and other art. We made our flower blankets by using fake flowers, pins and mesh. After we completed our flower blankets we got ready to eat. Each of us were given a coke and a bowl of pasta bake. If you finished you were allowed to have 2nds, 3rds, 4ths or even 5ths.

Overall I thought our fun week was GREAT. We had a fun time doing our arts and crafts.

In the middle is me. I am there for people to see and know who I am.

On the top right hand corner there is a Cross. This is the Lords Cross. I have that there because I believe in the Lord. If you are good to the Lord the Lord is good to you.

On the bottom left hand there is a heart that has the word Family in it. I put that there because I Love my family dearly and always will. In my family I have 4 brothers that I love. I am the only girl in my family too.

The Rejected Boy!

WALT:Add detail to our writing by using descriptive language and write stories with complete orientation, problem and resolution.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Rejected Boy

Marcus is a little boy. He is 7 years old and is having a very hard time. Marcus is short for his age so he gets a bit mocked. Marcus has blonde hair like his father. Marcus goes to a small school located in Christchurch.

Marcus has never had a real friend. Marcus tried so hard to have that one friend. All he ever got was rejected. Marcus has always been an isolated child. If you try to talk to him he will stay quite. One day Marcus tried to find that one perfect friend but got rejected.
Walking as slow as a turtle Marcus approached the person he wanted to be friends with. With a softly spoken voice Marcus muttered ¨come play with me, I'm your bestfriend¨. As soon as he said that last word the person instantly screamed out ¨NO¨.

Marcus got so offended that he started to scream his head off. Throwing his arms in the air Marcus growled as loud as a lion. Stomping like an elephant Marcus stormed out of the classroom where he was to chill out.

Marcus decided to go for a stroll to let out the anger. Marcus was so full of anger that he walked as fast as a cheetah. With his bitter face on you could tell he was down.  As he calmed down he thought about friends. What are friends, he said to himself. Once he was calm he went back into his class.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Task Description:Our task was to write a narrative that is showing not telling. Here I have written about a little boy (Marcus). Marcus has been having a hard time lately trying to find friends.
